DESCRIPTION
Slender anode is one type of sacrificial anode which can be used in Sacrificial Anode Cathodic Protection (SACP) System, especially for offshore application. Slender anode is also known as slender stand-off anodes.
Based on the length to width ratio, slender anodes may further be divided into “term” of “short”.
The term of short if the length of anode is less than four (4) times of anode’s thickness and term of long if the length of anode ≥ four (4) times of anode’s thickness.
This “term” will determine the anode resistance and anode utilization factor to be applied in calculation of anode’s requirement for the structures.

The slender anodes type is typically cast on insert /core which made from many types of material, such as: tubular/pipe, round bar/solid rod, threaded rod, eyebolts, flat bar, plate, provided with cable / wire or as per request and the other customized cores.
The slender anodes are manufactured up to hundred kilograms with anode’s configuration in trapezium or circular and many alternatives in dimension (width, thickness and length) and configuration of core / inserts.
There are two variant of slender anodes which often be used for protecting the structure, i.e. Aluminum alloy and Zinc alloy.
Application both of the types depend to the resistivity and environment location of the protected structure.

RECOMMENDED USES
Aluminum slender anodes mostly can be applied in sea water & sea mud environment, whereas Zinc slender stand off anodes can be applied in sea water, mud water and brackish (river) water environment.
Aluminium anodes have several advantages, they are much lighter in weight, and have a much higher capacity than Zinc.
The followings are some steel structures can be protected by slender anodes are as follows:

• Offshore structures: any kind of platforms, subsea/submarines pipelines, FPO, FPSO, MODU, SPAR, subsea structure, risers, mud mad, dog legs, wind turbine, etc.

• Inshore structures: ports, harbors, jetties, wind farms, sea water intake, locks, dams, bridges, piers, reclamation’s pile / sheet pile, etc.

HOW TO INSTALL
Most of slender anodes are installed to the new structures by using direct welding to the structure (can be welded at yard or on site by using underwater welding), hanging, bolted or even arranged / assembled to “sledge”, “retropod”, “hanging anodes”, etc.
The connecting from the “sledge”, “retropod” and “hanging anodes to the structures usually use suitable cable with certain size and long.
